Capcom have put together a new brand called "Resident Evil Archives", which they will use to release old RE games on the Wii at a budget price.
The first game to have this new lease of life will be the original Resident Evil from Gamecube, which was itself a remake apparently. My head hurts. Both the US and European box arts can be seen on the left there. You might say they're of the mugly persuasion. Capcom's press release reads:
Resident Evil Archives gives Wii gamers an opportunity to play classic games from the Resident Evil series they may have missed at a great value price. Experience the beginning of the saga with the remake of the game that started the survival horror genre, Resident Evil.
The Raccoon City Police Department doesn't know what happened to the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) team it sent out to investigate the Arklay Mountain area, where a number of people went missing. The unit's helicopter seems to have crashed in the woods, the RCPD hasn't received any contact from the squad since. The department decides to dispatch another S.T.A.R.S. unit, the Alpha team, to check things out.. but something goes terribly wrong.
You take control of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine (both recently seen in the disappointing Resident Evil 5). Your mission (should you choose to accept it?) is to investigate the eerie mansion at the core of the disaster and uncover the secrets behind a radical, genetic research facility. With unspeakable horrors lurking around each and every corner, the ultimate test will be to make it out alive! Relive the thrills and terror that defined the survival horror genre and launched a franchise that has sold over 40 million games worldwide.
The original, reborn: This is a Wii version of the classic Resident Evil remake, originally released on GameCube in 2002 which included new rooms, areas, items and creatures that weren't featured in the PlayStation original from 1996.Survival of the fittest: Battle against putrid zombies, infected dogs and horrific gigantic bosses as you struggle to survive.Defense weapons: Defensive weapons protect characters when being attacked.Your favourite RE characters on the Wii: Play as Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, who each uncover two completely different paths as they explore deep within the mansion.Deep puzzles: Solve dangerous, intricate puzzles and uncover terrifying secrets.More than ten different game endings: Unique ending scenarios dependent on your play decisions and triumphs.Do we need these classics on Wii, or are Capcom milking this thing too far? You can be the judge, when Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil hits the shelves in June.
