The Magic Obelisk for WiiWare

A new press release reveals that Japanese developers GAME ARTS have a game coming to WiiWare.

The Magic Obelisk is an astoundingly original gameplay experience featuring intriguing characters, an extraordinary tale and the forge of a deep friendship.

The game features over 30 stages and revolves around a tree spirit called Lukus. Like other tree spirits of the world, Lukus is endued with the ability to transform into trees and is keen to use his powers to help people. He's seeking the perfect place to take root and become a tree, but unfortunately the only way he can move is through shadows, a journey he cannot undertake himself. Players must help Lukus reach his aim by taking control of Popo, a light spirit who can shine his light near the mysterious Magic Obelisks to create shadows that will help Lukus move through each level.

On their journey through a vibrant fantasy world, players must overcome obstacles, solve puzzles and meet new allies and foes. The richly detailed yet cartoon-like robots, ghosts and spirits in the game reflect GAME ARTS' dedication to a fresh storybook art style. The overall effect of playing The Magic Obelisk is a serene feeling of happiness and healing.

Nintendo Unveils its Video Game Lineup For Early 2010

Consumers nationwide continue to snap up Nintendo products for the holidays, and Nintendo is poised to carry that momentum into 2010. Dozens of games for the Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems are on the way in a wide range of categories from both Nintendo and its third-party partners.

To bring a little color to the winter months, Nintendo will release two new colors for its Wii Remote controller. Starting Feb. 14, the controller will come in Pink or Blue and will be bundled with a Wii MotionPlus accessory. Along with the current White and Black versions of the controller, now every player in four-player matches can have his or her own color.

"During the holidays, tens of millions of Americans are going to spend enjoyable hours with both Wii and Nintendo DS," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "And the enjoyment will only grow in the early weeks of 2010, whether your taste in gaming comes from exploring ocean depths, catching, training and battling Pokmon or even designing your own micro-games."

On the Wii console, Endless Ocean: Blue World arrives on Feb. 22 to provide players with an adventurous and educational experience, complete with underwater exploration, an adventurous storyline and Wii Speak compatibility. This January also sees the highly anticipated release of Tatsunoko VS. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Available exclusively on Wii, this new VS. series fighting game features global online game play for those who have access to a broadband Internet connection.

On the portable side, Nintendo's hand-held systems will see the arrival of a number of diverse games, including the eagerly awaited Pokmon HeartGold Version and Pokmon SoulSilver Version on March 14. Pokmon HeartGold Version and Pokmon SoulSilver Version allow fans to return to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the beloved Pokmon Gold and Pokmon Silver games. The games have been fully enhanced with rich graphics, updated sound, new touch-screen controls and much more.

On March 28, WarioWare D.I.Y. lets users design their own micro-games from scratch and share them with other WarioWare D.I.Y. owners via a broadband Internet connection and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Every element, such as the characters, the environment, the actions and even the purpose of the micro-game itself, can be created entirely by the player. Also on March 28, hungry gamers can dig into America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking, which gives family members the chance to prepare 300 different dishes together. All of the recipes and the how-to videos in the game were created by the popular public television show America's Test Kitchen.

On Jan. 18, Glory of Heracles introduces U.S. role-playing fans to the popular Japanese franchise. The game is inspired by Greek mythology and written by Kazushige Nojima of Final Fantasy fame. The traditional role-playing game features an engrossing story and a robust battle system.

Meet Wiiwaa, the latest and probably greatest in a long line of 3rd party peripherals for the Nintendo Wii. Aimed at kids, this cuddly puppet is the creation of Zoink Entertainment. The Wiimote slots into Wiiwa's mouth, allowing you to use him for simple gestures.

Zoink Entertainment's Klaus Lyngeled spoke:

Use your Wiiwaa puppet to control this little fellow just like a real puppeteer would do. Walk, jump, dance, do crazy somersaults - whatever you do with your Wiiwaa puppet directly affects the character in the game. This innovative control system makes it super intuitive to tell the creature where to go and what to do. I don't think there has ever been a simpler and more natural way to play a video game. Just pop in your controller and Wiiwaa comes to life on the screen! The plush toy expands the game from the screen and into the living room. Your hero and friend is right there with you and you can continue playing with him even after the game console has been switched off.

This is a game that transcends gender and age. Kids will appreciate the simplicity of it and how natural it feels to play. With this game, parents provide non-violent, intelligent entertainment for their children that even motivates them to exercise their physique and train their coordination skills. But it is not strictly a game for kids - much like a Pixar movie, there is something in there for everyone. Adult gamers too will enjoy the action, the humor and the freshness of the experience. Mega Man 10 coming to WiiWare

Old school Mega Man fans can feel all warm inside today, as the 250th issue of Nintendo Power magazine reveals Mega Man 10 is in the works.

As with Mega Man 9, it's definitely coming to WiiWare, but may be announced for other download services in future. Again, the style will be of the classic 8-bit variety harking back to its NES era.

This time out, three characters will be playable from the start, one of these being Proto Man. A slew of new bosses will be there too, including one called "Sheep Man", no lie.

Cammie Dunaway frustrated!... with sales

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was released on DS around 8 months ago. In that time, sales figures have unfortunately been a disappointment. Speaking with MTV, Nintendo spokeswoman Cammie Dunaway commented:

" It's frustrating, quite frankly. Certainly there have been mature titles like Resident Evil, the first Call of Duty, that have sold over a million units. With something like GTA, there's great content there. We do think it'll have a long tail and we've seen that with a lot of titles across all genres on the DS platform that consumers continue to discover them. Part of what's needed is you have to continue to put marketing support behind these titles. It's one of the things we've learned over the past few years. The old dynamic of throw it on TV for a few weeks and forget it isn't going to work, because new consumers are coming in all the time ".

One of the main criticisms aimed at the first No More Heroes game was the repetitive nature of Travis' jobs/chores, which were necessary to make money. In the sequel "Desperate Struggle", Ubisoft hope to make these a lot more entertaining and have given them an 8-bit feel.

Nintendo Delivers a Hand-Held Epic with The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

One of the year's biggest adventures is fired up and heading down the tracks. Today's launch of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the hand-held Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi video game systems marks a fun new chapter in the historic franchise. For the first time, heroic Link teams with Princess Zelda, who accompanies him on an original quest to save Hyrule from ruin. This unforgettable saga has Link navigating perilous dungeons and commanding a customizable train. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks features challenging puzzles, wide-ranging exploration and a deep storyline.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks builds upon the dynamic touch-screen control interface established in 2007's The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass , making it easier for players to perform advanced maneuvers and guide Link through an engaging series of adventures and challenges. An active participant throughout the entire game, Princess Zelda can take control of powerful Phantom characters to help Link make his way through obstacle-filled dungeons. While controlling Link's customizable train, players can take on special missions in which he transports people and valuable cargo across the game world. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks includes a new head-to-head multiplayer mode that lets up to four players compete via a local wireless connection with one game card. In this mode, players explore six unique areas in search of valuable Force Gems. Traversing these areas and attempting to possess the most Force Gems at the end of each session, players must also avoid patrolling Phantoms, while setting off traps and using hidden abilities to foil their opponents.

The Nintendo Wii console crossed another milestone in the UK market last week, as it passed over 6 million units sold in less than three years.

Wii is the fastest selling console in UK history, it launched on December 8th 2006 and crossed the 6 million figure on November 28th 2009, faster than any other previous console has managed.
