On Japan's official Virtual Console page, Nintendo has announced that Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars will be available for download sometime this month.
Good news for fans of the game, of which there are many. When Nintendo Power conducted a poll for Virtual Console requests, Super Mario RPG featured highly in the results.
Note however that this doesn't necessarily mean it's coming to the US. The same goes for PAL regions, where the original was never even released. Keep those fingers crossed.
